Systematic risk:
The risk that is common to an entire class of assets. It cannot be diversified away, except to the extent that another class of assets can be included in the portfolio. Risks associated with events affecting individual firms (such as a fire that destroys production facilities) are diversifiable. See Capital Asset Pricing Model.
