Lobbying:
Attempts by individuals and organizations to influence public officials toward a desired action or policy. Lobbyists can provide useful information that helps clarify the implications of policy options; however, much lobbying activity is directed at benefiting special interests which have the economic (and therefore political) clout to influence legislation and agency rulings. Nations often attempt to address the potential ethical issues associated with the abuse of access through registration and reporting requirements.
