Hydroelectric generator:
An electric generation system that is powered by falling water. A special type operates as a pumped storage facility; i.e., electricity is used to pump water uphill to a reservoir when power demand is low and electricity is cheap to produce; when demand is high and electricity more expensive to produce, the stored water is allowed to flow down through hydroelectric generators.
