Degree day:

There are two types, heating-degree days and cooling-degree days, both reflecting the extent to which a daily temperature falls below or rises above an assumed base, usually 65 degrees Fahrenheit (in the United States). Temperature forecasts can assist in predicting energy consumption for heating and cooling.
