Conflicts of Interest:
A situation in which a public or private official's decisions are influenced by the official's personal interests. Examples include self-dealing, accepting (secret) side-payments for making a decision, use of public property for private advantage, inappropriate use of confidential information, and outside employment with someone affected by the decision. If a decision-maker has a personal interest in the decision, he or she should not take part in the deliberations.
